Cuba Libre, literally meaning “Free Cuba,” is said to have been started as a toast by American soldiers during the Spanish-American War. This classic cocktail, originated in Havana, Cuba in the early 1900s, is traditionally made from white rum, although dark rum may be used. It is differentiated from a standard rum and Coke by a squeeze of lime juice and a lime wedge in the bottom of the glass to coat the glass, cutting the sweetness of the cola.
Cuba Libre
A refreshing Cuban cocktail, since Coca-Cola is not available in Cuba, Cubans usually use Tropicola or another local brand of cola for this citrusy cocktail.
