Butterscotch brownies, also known as blondies, switch up cocoa powder for a rich, caramelized combination of melted butter and brown sugar to make a rich butterscotch flavor. This classic baking recipe yields a dense, deeply chewy dessert bar perfectly complemented by the nutty pecans. Browning the butter prior to mixing it with the ingredients deepens the butterscotch flavor of these wonderfully chewy bars.

Instructions
- Melt butter. Browining the butter in a light colored pan such as a stainless skillet will enhance the butterscotch flavor. Be certain to cool the butter before adding it to the mixture to avoid damaging your mixing bowl or conducting too much heat if using a metal bowl.
- Combine butter and remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl. Spread batter in a 9 x 13 or 8 x 8 inch parchment lined pan. Bake for 20 – 25 minutes in an oven heated to 350 degrees. Remove from oven and cool. Remove from pan on parchment paper and cut into pieces.
