One of the easiest appetizers to put together, this recipe came from my wonderful Aunt Louise, who was my dad’s younger sister. I recall having this appetizer when we went to visit her family in Freeland, Michigan. She generously shared the recipe with my mother and my mom prepared it for our family for several years.
My cousin, Mary Beth, helped me fill in the details on how her mom prepared this dish.
This recipe uses frozen salad shrimp, which is tiny shrimp, peeled and without tails. It is quickly thawed by running cold water over it. Once you shake the water from the shrimp, you can sprinkle it over a block of cream cheese. Finally, top it with cocktail sauce. While you can purchase the sauce, I make mine because it is so delicious and super easy to make at home. Chill the dish until it is time to serve. I serve it with good sized cracker, so you can spoon on cream cheese with the cocktail shrimp on each cracker.
